Florence Henderson has inspired generations of people through her portrayal of America's most beloved TV mother, Carol Brady, on one of the longest running situational comedies, The Brady Brunch. Today Florence is still a role model but for a much different audience: senior citizens.

Henderson created the FloH Club as an organization to assist senior citizens with understanding and embracing technology, as she described in an interview with Dear Doctor magazine. “I was inspired to create the FloH Club because of my own fear of technology and because I didn't want to keep asking my children for help,” she said.

And while Henderson was blessed with naturally straight teeth and has had no cosmetic work done, she is not opposed to it. “I wouldn't care how old I was, if I had misaligned teeth or felt I needed cosmetic dentistry I would certainly do it!”

One teeth-straightening option many adults consider is clear orthodontic aligners. They are an excellent way for self-conscious adults to align their teeth without feeling that they will appear as an awkward “brace-faced” youth — a look that is commonplace for the teenage years.

But what are clear aligners? They are an alternative system to traditional braces that use a sequence of individual, custom-fitted trays that are clear and removable to gradually straighten teeth. They are usually recommended for correcting mild to moderate spacing problems or crowding of the teeth, and for cases in which there are no major issues with your bite (i.e., your back teeth fit together properly and biting forces are distributed evenly on all of your teeth).

To learn more about this method of aligning teeth, you can continue reading the Dear Doctor magazine article “Clear Orthodontic Aligners.” Or you can contact us today to schedule an appointment so that we can conduct a thorough examination and discuss what treatment options will be best for you. If you've got unsightly, misshapen, or crooked teeth, could dental veneers help make things right in your mouth again?

At Z Dentistry in Reno, NV, we offer veneers that can cover up what's gone wrong with your teeth. Check out a few answers to someVeneers frequently asked questions about veneers below:

What Are They?

Veneers are narrow pieces of either porcelain or plastic that are placed over your teeth to make them look more attractive. Typically speaking, very little (if any) anesthesia is needed during a veneer procedure. They can last for a long time and have excellent color stability, making them extremely resistant to coffee-drinking or cigarette-smoking stains.

How Can I Be Sure They'll Fit My Unique Dental Profile?

Veneers are specially made by a dental lab technician who has an exact model of your personal dental profile obtained from your dentist. This is important, as some tooth enamel must be removed so the veneer shell can be fastened atop your tooth.

How Are They Fastened To My Teeth?

Your tooth is cleaned using special chemicals designed to help achieve a bond between your tooth's surface and the veneer. A unique cement surface is applied to your tooth beneath the veneer before a laser helps to harden the cement, effectively attaching your veneer to your tooth.

What Should I Expect Next?

During the next two weeks, it's imperative that you brush and floss your teeth every day. Around the end of that period, you'll be expected to come back for a follow-up examination. Sometimes, there will be slight variations between the color of your natural teeth and the color of porcelain veneers, though this happens just as often between natural teeth.

If getting veneers is something you're finally ready to do for your discolored smile, then give Z Dentistry a call at (775) 331-1616 today. You'll be glad you did - and your beaming smile will be a testament to it!

If you've ever looked through a magazine and viewed the perfectly aligned white smiles of celebrities and models, you may be already familiar with the look of porcelain veneers. To achieve a picture-perfect smile, many Hollywood stars choose porcelain veneers (thin-layers of porcelain) that are bonded to the front of teeth allowing for the alteration of tooth position, shape, size and color. By fixing imperfections, as well as whitening them, veneers offer celebrities a perfect smile that, when maintained properly, can last for several decades.

Evaluation: If porcelain veneers sound appealing, our office can help you decide if you're a good candidate for them. We will ensure you have sufficient tooth structure, that your teeth are in more or less a normal position, and that symmetrical gum contours are present, allowing for proper “framing” of the teeth, necessary for a beautiful smile.

The Process: Once it's been determined that you're a good candidate for veneers, our office will begin a smile analysis using computer imaging to digitally replicate your smile and then fabricate a mock-up smile made of tooth-colored wax. We will work with you to determine the right color and shade for your veneers. You can choose the brightest, whitest “Hollywood smile” or opt for a more natural color and enhanced look.

Next Steps: After your initial appointment, it typically takes the laboratory one week to fabricate your porcelain veneers. The insertion of your veneers can be done with or without a local anesthetic. We will place the veneers on your teeth with a light-sensitive resin, which sets with the use of a white light, effectively bonding them to your teeth. While you may initially experience some tooth sensitivity to hot or cold, this will disappear after a few days. Maintaining your perfect smile requires simple brushing and flossing techniques and routine check ups.
